Young reader getting to grips with narrative

I'm currently working on a storytelling project with Chris, age 9. He is an avid reader now, but last year this time he could not read; at least he did not like to show us is beginner steps. Next step is hand writing that causes him great trouble, to the extent of rage and tears. However, he has always been such a great storyteller! Well, to make a long story short, I suggested that I can takes notes on the computer, while he is telling the tale, Only that I'm not typing fast enough for his brilliant spoken text flow. he liked my suggestion: use the voice recorder on your cell phone, so that we can conserve your phrase and replay it for me to recapture every word. He liked this very much indeed.

Next time that I will see him we will continue the story, hopefully he will accept a quick and dirty edit (though he dislikes the idea of making any change whatsoever) and then find the relevant illustrations for a power point presentation. he suggested that we can use this as a present for his younger twin sisters who are also on their trajectory as beginner readers and writers. What a great project for grandson & granny!
