The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman
Friedman's bestselling book The World is Flat is a true eye opener.
The explosion of technologies
that are known as web 2.0 - blogs, wikis, podcasts etc has broght the whole world together in new and unpredictable constellations.
The book is explaining and exemplifying how the digitalized information society now makes everything (and anyone with a digital presence) searchable, and combinations of key terms can make mathematic models of user profiles, such as the way that Amazon, the experimental bookstore that expanded as one of the first really powerful dot.companies, and now has had great impact on the media market, world wide.
One field that has had a particular interest for me, as an education person is how the schools and universities all over the world now have such easy and instant ways to collaborate across borders. The Flat Classroom project (by Vicki Davis and Julie Lindsay) for English language students - is just one example of such a grassroot movement inspired by Friedman's book, and now also well described from an interview in this second edition of Friedman's book that is "expanded and updated".
